VoiceXML and Dialog Systems Resources: Development Tools

This page contains pointers to development tools that you can use when working with VoiceXML. Note that, in most cases, you have to register with the provider in order to use these tools.

Test Portals

A number of US-based sites provide developer resources for building VoiceXML applications, along with hosting services whereby you can upload your VoiceXML pages and then call in on a telephone to test your application. This is, of course, rather expensive if you are calling from outside the US. No such services are available in Australia at the time of writing. At least one of these sites allows access via VoIP (Voice over IP), although you should be aware that but this has an impact on recognition accuracy. All the sites provide tools like VoiceXML simulators and grammar checkers, and lots of other useful materials, so they are worth checking out.

Development Environments

A number of vendors make available software development environments that you can install on your own PC, providing support for the authoring and testing of VoiceXML apps.
