Sitting at my desk and getting this bloody thesis done. No more travelling for a while.

Since October 2006, I am Student Board Member of SIGGEN.

I am a PhD student at the Centre for Language Technology at Macquarie University in Sydney. I started in October 2005, so this is what I'll be doing now until about mid 2009.
My undergrad was in Computer Science and Portuguese Linguistics at the University of Hamburg in Germany. In 2003, I came to Sydney and completed an MA in Cognitive Science at UNSW.

My PhD project is in the field of Referring Expression Generation, supervised by Robert Dale and Rolf Schwitter. In particular, I am looking at the generation of referring expressions containing spatial relations. My second focus is on the evaluation of referring expressions — automatic evaluation against human-produced corpora to achieve naturalness, and task-based evaluation by humans to achieve usefulness of the generated descriptions.

As I go along I try to keep the research section of this website up to date.
