In the light of the French decree from the 18th of January 1994 related to the creation of a procedure of double badged doctoral degree between French and Overseas universities;
In the light of the French decree from the 25th of April 2002 related doctoral studies;
And
In the light of the equivalent documentation that rules the doctoral studies at Macquarie University;
The current agreement between [University’s name]
and Macquarie University specifies that:
Article 1
This agreement of joint supervision is signed off for Mr [candidate’s name] enrolled as a Doctorat candidate in École Doctorale “[name of the Ecole Doctorale]” discipline Informatique at [University’s name].
Mr [candidate’s name] will also be enrolled as a Ph.D. Candidate at Macquarie University.
The enrolment in double badged Doctorate (thèse de cotutelle) will commence in the academic year 2003/2004 and for a period of 3 years.
Article 2
Mr [candidate’s name] will be supervised by a supervisor in each country. The work will be carried out alternately in the two universities –
3 months per year at [University’s name],
9 months per year at Macquarie University.
Article 3
The yearly registration fees will be paid two years to one University and one year to the other.
1/ Mr [candidate’s name] will pay the registration fees to Macquarie University for the first two years. In order to obtain his student card he will also enrol [University’s name], where the payment of the registration fees will be waived.
2/ Mr [candidate’s name] will pay the registration fees to [University’s name] for the third year. In order to obtain his student card he will also enrol Macquarie University, where the payment of the registration fees will be waived.
Article 4
In Australia, Mr [candidate’s name] will be covered by the Overseas Student Health Cover.
Article 1

The supervisor at Macquarie University is: [supervisor’s name].
The proposed title of the thesis is: [Thesis Title].
The two supervisors will jointly be involved in the continuing assessment of the candidate’s work in progress.
Article 2
The candidate, the supervisors and the universities will comply with the relevant regulations in each country with regard to intellectual property in order to protect the PhD topic and the publication of research results.
Article 3
The written thesis will be examined by at least three independent examiners. At least two examiners will be appointed by each institution.
The jury of the thesis defence will include the examiners and the two supervisors.
Each University will appoint its examiners according to its own rules, following consultation with the candidate’s supervisors. Each University will assess the examiners’ written reports according to established procedures.
Once the candidate completes the requirements for the “Doctor in Philosophy of Macquarie University” and for the “Docteur de l’[University’s name]”, authorisation will be given for the candidature to progress to the oral defence stage.
Authorisation to conduct the thesis defence will be given in the light of the appropriate reports and will comply with the French decree from the 25th of April 2002 (Art. 12).

A thesis defence will be conducted at [University’s name].

and will be complemented by an abstract or summary in French.

Article 6
Based on a satisfactory final report on the thesis defence, the two Universities undertake to award the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Macquarie University and the degree of Doctor (for [University’s name]).

The signatories of the current agreement will comply with existing regulation in each of the two countries regarding the filing, registration of copyright, description and reproduction of the thesis (according to the decree of the 25th of September 1985 for the French part).
