Hi, welcome to my home page. My full name is Diego Mollá Aliod, where my family name is the double word Mollá Aliod. It is like a hyphenated surname, but without a hyphen! I often sign my publications as Diego Mollá or Diego Mollá-Aliod.

Research Interests

My general research interests lie in the extraction of information from text. I have worked on question answering, named entity recognition, and summarisation. Below are more details of my recent research.

If you are looking for an undergraduate or postgraduate research topic, look at my list of postgraduate projects. If you don't find your favourite topic in the list, feel free to send me an email and discuss possible research.

Natural Language Processing of Medical Text

I have recently built a corpus of summaries of clinical inquiries using the material from the Journal of Family Practice. With this corpus I plan to develop techniques to help medical practitioners find and appraise clinical evidence under the paradigm of Evidence Based Medicine.

Answer Extraction and Question Answering

AnswerFinder is a system that uses ExtrAns' technology to perform question answering from larger volumes of text, on the line of the question answering track of TREC.

From Nov. 1995 to end of Oct 1999 I participated in ExtrAns, an answer extraction system, and the extension WebExtrAns. Here is a description of ExtrAns, adapted to HTML from a publication in CLIP.

PhD Research

My PhD focused on a formal specification of a subset of the aspectual interactions between nouns and verbs. Relevant links are:
