2.1. Assesment

The assesment for this unit will consist of a number of practical assignments and one written assignment.

  • Data collection and Gaussian classification (20%) You will collect some speech data (from yourself) and perform a small study on vowel classification using just one feature vector per vowel. You will compare some alternative feature types for this task. Due 15 April 2002

  • Speech Recognition (30%) you will work in teams of 2 to train a the Sphinx speech recognition system using Australian speech data. You will be assesed based on a report of the results of your work. Due end of semester.

  • Speaker Recognition (10%) You will develop a small speaker recogniser using data recorded from yourself and other students. Due ??.

  • Written Assignment (40%) You will write two reports on topics in speech recognition. Due: Weeks 6 & 13.

In order to avoid long delays processing marks, I will be unwilling to provide extensions except in genuine cases. If you wish to request an extension, please contact me before the deadline for an assignment. Penalties will be deducted for late submissions without good reason.
