Conjointly with my doctoral work, I am working on a few
projects related to games design and research. A few of them are listed
below, and some basic information provided.
Playing Stories Playing Stories is a new project starting up, with the focus of gathering qualitative data on role playing games players from around the world via internet surveys. Please sign up and take the surveys! Enhancing MMOG world design with believability - Utilizing natural science principles and methods in MMOGs The MMORPG believability project forms part of my private research, and basically aims at developing cost-benefit effective methods for the design of specific aspect of fictional world settings and environments, as well as consistent and dynamic content and new forms of player challenges. The approach suggested is based on utilizing knowledge about the real world from the natural sciences, in combination with principles of MMOG design and development. Especially features of ecological systems in nature, simple evolutionary systems and deep, consistent world construction knowledge appear to offer new inspiration for MMOG worlds. ReefWorld - Education, Entertainment and Research in a Virtual Reef Environment The ReefWorld idea proposes to design and generate a virtual, 3D continually persistent online version of the Australian Great Barrier Reef. Accessible by users globally, and designed to facilitate education, entertainment, public awareness on ecological issues and scientific research, reefworld will form a nexus the education in and study of the marine sciences. It will combine the latest multimedia technologies to deliver interactive, high-quality immersive experiences. Streamed directly from Australia, reefworld will be accessible by everyone with a broadband connection. Via enabling scientists worldwide to run scenarios in reefworld, the virtual environment will form a vital research resource
