ICS Postgraduate Research Support (ICS PGRS) Scheme - METS Service Requests
Student service requests to METS (Macquarie Engineering & Technical Services) are partially or totally funded by the ICS Postgraduate Research Support scheme. Funding for METS LABOUR costs is available from the ICS PGRS. This will not affect the student's ICS PGRF entitlement. Student and the supervisor may choose to fund any METS MATERIAL costs (which is usually small) from a research grant or from the student's ICS PGRF entitlement (see information above).
How to lodge a METS Service Request:
- Discuss the proposed METS job with your supervisor, (and METS staff if necessary)
- Fill out the blue METS form (or you may fill out the form online)
- Quote the account number 96000507 for any labour charges
- Quote a research account number for materials charges (ask your supervisor for this account number).
- Lodge the form with METS directly.

Surviving Your Thesis
Surviving Your Thesis, edited by Suzan Burton and Peter Steane, is a practical and informal guide to minimising the difficulties of completing a thesis. With workable, step-by step advice, the book is a highly relevant resource for all doctoral and masters level research students.
The book addresses the questions all novice researchers face and gives an understanding of what is required to succeed, strategies to increase students chances of succeeding, and advise on how to achieve and maintain the resilience needed to survive the almost inevitable setbacks of completing a thesis.
The book is based around the themes of momentum, focus and communication. Chapters are divided into advice on the preparatory, operational and submission levels of a thesis.
