The Next Step - How to apply for a research degree in your area of interest

In applying for a research candidature and scholarship, it is important for you to identify a researcher in your area of interest who is prepared and able to supervise you.

Please follow the steps listed below in making your application.

  1. Identify your area of specific research interest within the department. Please refer to the departmental web sites: Physics; Mathematics; Electronics; Computing for information about research areas, centres and groups, and for contact details of researchers.
  2. Contact (by email) an academic in your chosen area of interest to discuss your research aspirations and possible project topic. Attach a CV and scanned copies of your academic results to your correspondence. If the supervisor is supportive of your application to Macquarie, then in collaboration with the supervisor, you need to write a brief project proposal and nominate an associate supervisor also.
  3. Now you are ready to submit an application for research study at Macquarie. The application forms for candidature and scholarship, as well as all admission information is available on the New Students section at the Higher Degree Research Unit (HDRU) web site. Your application must be complete and accompanied by the original copies of all necessary supporting documentation. Please submit your application to the Higher Degree Research Unit.
