The Division of Information and Communication Sciences is one of Macquarie University's strongest research Divisions and excels in all research indicators including publications, internal and external competitive research grants, research contracts, Australian Research Council (ARC) Fellowships, distinguished visitors and postgraduate student numbers.
The Division sustains research activities with the highest international standing as well as maintaining a broad range of research activities of excellent national and international standing.
The Division is home to two CORES - Concentrations of Research Excellence: Quantum Information Science & Cryptography and Lasers & Photonics and many research groups and centres.
The Division of ICS supports research students by providing funding for conference, workshop and research visit travel; purchases of specialised software and equipment and for other research-related expenses. In 2006 alone, we have provided a total of $160,000 toward 77 funding applications lodged by research students. In addition, full-time students are provided with copying and office supplies, desk and computer, telephone with voicemail, and network account with email and web space.
Students may also apply to Macquarie International for funding for overseas travel. Travel Grants ($500 to $2000) are available to assist with expenses incurred when Macquarie students are travelling overseas. The Macquarie University Postgraduate Research Fund provides up to $4000 during candidature for conference travel and equipment expenses.
