Postgraduate ICS degrees @ Macquarie

We deliver postgraduate programs in Information Technology (IT) and Engineering that give you the opportunity to strengthen your understanding of underlying principles by applying them to practical and industry focused problems. Postgraduate coursework involves structured programs of study in discrete units leading to a qualification of Certificate, Diploma or Masters. Assessment is usually based on completed assignments, presentations and exams.

Master of Information Technology

The Master of Information Technology program is designed for students who are established IT professionals and want to hone their skills in a particular area, build on the knowledge gained in their undergraduate degree, or to simply give themselves the edge in career advancement.

Our program is designed to allow students to have a the ultimate flexibility in choosing a program that suits their needs and desires. As many of our units are delivered by industry professionals, classes are conducted in the evenings, at weekends and online.

Graduate Diploma in Information Technology

The Graduate Diploma in Information Technology is designed to equip students who do not already have IT experience. The program provides students with the necessary skills to move into an IT career. The Graduate Diploma can be used as a pathway for entry into the Master of Information Technology Degree.

Our program is designed to allow students to have a the ultimate flexibility in choosing a program that suits their needs and desires. As many of our units are delivered by industry professionals, classes are conducted in the evenings, at weekends and online.

Master of Engineering Management

This degree is ideal for students with an engineering or IT background, who wish to make the move into management. The program is designed to provide a pathway into engineering management for professional engineers who do not wish to complete a full MBA but who want to benefit from a program that includes the high quality of management teaching available from the MGSM, executive-level adjuncts from the IT and Engineering industry and top academics from the Division of ICS. Core units are recognised for credit towards postgraduate programs offered by the Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

The Master of Engineering Management includes lecturers with expertise from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management and the Division of Information and Communication Sciences as well as industry adjuncts.

Master of Telecommunications Engineering

This program is designed for IT and engineering professionals working in the field of information and communication technology who wish to update and/or hone their skills in telecommunications technologies (e.g. wireless, optical), networking technology, and telecommunication systems.

The Master of Telecommunications Engineering provides candidates with a thorough grounding for both the theoretical and practical aspects of advanced telecommunications engineering. Topics include the fundamentals of networking protocols and distributed systems, system security, underlying network technologies, mobile IP, high performance networking, distributed programming for internet applications and network management.

Master of Consulting in Information Technology

The Master of Consulting degree prepares students for a consulting career in the Information Technology industry.  Coursework includes a wide selection of units in advanced areas of Information Technology.  The degree culminates in two semesters of industry placement to gain real-world experience, combined with material specific to the roles and responsibilities of consultants.
Applicants for this degree will usually be interviewed to determine suitability for industry placement.

This program articulates from the Master of Information Technology and gives students the opportunity for 1 year of practical and industry focused experience with two 6-month internship placements in industry, complimented by a series of workshops on campus teaching relevant skills as well as useful networking sessions with senior industry professionals.

How to Apply

International Applicants

The University's International Office manages the applications, admissions and fee payments for all our international students. They offer a complete range of services for international students from first course enquiries to applications, admissions, accommodation and post-arrival support.

Your application for admission to our programs needs to be received by the University's International Office by the following dates, however late applications are accepted:

* End of November for courses beginning in February
* End of May for courses beginning in July

Read the admission information website provided by the International Office, where you can find an application form and information on the application and admission process. Submit the application form together with your supporting documentation (in English or certified translations into English) to the International Office.

Local Applicants (except Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate in Information Technology)

Australian applicants should complete the postgraduate coursework application form, and attach certified copies of all necessary documents to support your application.

If you've discontinued your Macquarie University postgraduate coursework program, and you're applying for readmission, please complete a postgraduate readmission application form. For more detailed information on Admission procedures, please refer to the Postgraduate Studies Section of Macquarie University.

Closing dates are generally mid-January to start in Semester 1 and end of June to start in Semester 2, but students should check the Postgraduate Studies Section website for dates and deadlines information.

Graduate Diploma in Information Technology Applicants

Australian applicants for the Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate in Information Technology should complete this application form, and attach certified copies of all necessary documents to support your application.

On time applications close on 28 September 2007. Late applications for the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma will be accepted on payment of a late feeas follows (Please note that all late fees are non-refundable):

Saturday 29 September – Wednesday 31 October $97 late fee
Thursday 1 November – Friday 30 November $109 late fee
