Title: The ACL Anthology as a Research Platform
Speakers: Robert Dale, Meredith Taylor, Michael Olney
The ACL Anthology is an online collection of over 14000 papers in
computational linguistics and natural language processing, comprising all
the proceedings of the ACL's conferences and workshops, all back issues of
the Computational Linguistics journal, and proceedings from a number of
other conference series including Coling. Over the last few years, a number
of groups around the world have started using the Anthology itself as a
corpus for research. Here at Macquarie, Brett Powley's PhD work has looked
at processing citations in the Anthology, and we have also used the data for
a small number of student projects.
In this talk, I'll give an overview of what people around the world are
doing with the Anthology, what we have been doing here at Macquarie, and
what we have plans for in the future. I'll then give the floor to Meredith
Taylor and Michael Olney, two honours students who have been exploring
summarization in the context of the Anthology for their Comp448 project.
