Short resume

Dr. Hong Liang Qiao is CEO of Lexxe Pty Ltd. He has almost two decades of experience in Natural Language Processing, spanning across core research areas such as Part-of-Speech Tagging, Parsing and Word Sense Disambiguation, etc. On such foundations, Hong built advanced Question Answering Systems, Knowledge Management Systems, Document Categorization Systems, Natural Language Interface to Databases and Search Engines.

Hong's combined international academic and industrial career includes Uppsala University, the Norwegian Computing Centre for the Humanities (the University of Bergen), the University of Sydney, Sayso! (formerly Syrinx Speech Systems), Monkey Pty Ltd, General Language Machines and Kangasoft Pty Ltd.

In 2001, Hong started his interest in search engine technology and felt that his expertise in Natural Langauge Processing would help improve search relevance and accuracy. He holds the view that NLP should be the core issue of the 3rd generation search technology. He designed and coded Lexxe search engine (Alpha version), which implemented many of his Natural Language ideas. Hong founded Lexxe Pty Ltd in Sydney, Australia in 2005.

Hong earned his B.A. degree in English from Shanghai International Studies University. He holds an M.A in Linguistics and English Language Teaching from the University of Leeds. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computational Linguistics from the University of Queensland.
