Title: Fluid Beam - Projected Displays in Various Applications
Speaker: Mira Spassova

Fluid Beam is a system using a steerable projector and camera unit that is
used to augment the surfaces of instrumented environments with projected
virtual objects. In this way, the environment appears to be covered with a
kind of invisible layer on which images, text, videos, video streams and
other virtual objects can be placed. By directing the projector beam at
particular surfaces, the virtual objects placed on them are made visible as
if the projector were a virtual torch. In my talk, I will give a short
introduction in a couple of applications using the Fluid Beam unit, like for
example SearchLight (search function for physical objects fitted with
optical markers), Product Associated Displays (displays appearing at
locations that can be intuitively associated with the objects they show
information about), Virtual Room Inhabitant (virtual character moving along
the walls and acting as an assistant) or Beam-Its (projected "sticky
notes"). Furthermore, I will present our idea of interacting with projected
displays by means of 3D acceleration sensors that are integrated for example
in the Wii remote control.
