Title: Biological Named Entity Recognition
Speaker: Frederic Ehrler

This presentation will be dedicated to a literature review of biological
name entity recognition. The talk will offer an overview of the specific
problems that occur while researching biological object in the literature.
This is a very challenging task due to the lack of terminology guideline,
the homonymy problems and the large amount of compound word. The principal
approaches used to resolve the problem will be presented and discussed.
Depending of the remaining time, I will present a global overview of the
structure of my PHD. My PHD is articulated around the extraction of
biological information from biomedical text. It covers the recognition of
protein name, the extraction of protein-protein interaction and the
functional annotation. The challenges, problems and approach used to resolve
these tasks will be presented.
