Title: Entailment: Divide and Conquer
Speaker: Elena Akhmatova

Textual Entailment is an interesting task to solve that presents a
researcher with many unexpected problems. The majority of the state-of-art
approaches to textual entailment focus on defining a generic approach to
RTE. As complicated as it is I believe the task can not be solved in one go.
Instead the technique of divide and conquer is much more promising. In my
talk I will identify a subclass of the entailment pairs I tackle first and
will present a machine learner to demonstrate the recognisability of the
type. Then, I will present a two-part probabilistic model for their
classification into true and false entailments and show the results of the
evaluation of the model in different conditions. That will be followed by
the steps that are taken to improve the model.
