Title: The Centre for Language Technology and DUC 2005
Speaker: Diego Molla et al.

The guidelines for the DUC 2005 tasks have been released recently. The
"Document Understanding Conference" (DUC) is an established forum for
the evaluation of various tasks related to document summarisation
systems. This year's task is "... to synthesize from a set of
25-50 documents a brief, well-organized, fluent answer to a need for
information that cannot be met by just stating a name, date, quantity,
etc."

DUC 2005 presents an opportunity to combine work on question-answering
and document summarisation being developed in CLT. This "talk" will be
a presentation by various members of CLT about bits of their work and
how they might fit to build such a system.

The session will be convened by Diego, who will present the current
DUC task description. Then Stephen Wan will give general background
about DUC, followed by presentations by Stephen, Diego, and Robert. At
the end of the session we hope, with help from the audience, to get a
feeling of how we might combine our research for this challenge.
