Title: Support Vector Machines
Support vector machine (SMV) algorithm was first introduced in 1992
(COLT-92), and was greatly developed ever since. It is now an important and
active field of all Machine Learning research, and has successful
applications in many fields (bioinformatics, text, handwriting recognition,
etc).
Because SVMs are in fact linear classifiers in a feature space defined by a
kernel function, I will talk about the Kernel machines first, including
Linear Learning Machines, Kernel induced feature spaces, generalisation
theory, and the optimisation theory. Then the introduction of SVMs as a
particular instance will be given. I will also give at least one example of
how SVMs are used in some classification problems, e.g. face recognition.
