Title: Non-Contiguous Tree Parsing
In transfer-based MT, it's necessary to carry out tree transformations via
transfer rules. In some cases, these transfer rules require the mapping of
non-contiguous groupings of nodes over arbitrary distances in the tree. An
obvious solution would require an unbounded memory and added complexity.
I'll look at some cases, and then present an algorithm I came up with for
doing this in an efficient way, based on a technique from compiler theory.
This will be a practice run for a talk at the conference Theoretical and
Methodological Issues in MT.
