Mmm,
-in the olden days, when I used to travel (say, 1970s)
-when trying to book tickets on a particular Brasilian Airline, (was it
Cruzeiro do Brasil?), it was always "fully booked", but when we showed up at
the airfield, there never was more than five people on the plane (capacity
24+, like an F27 or similar). We did not know of linguistics (other than it
was something the CIA pretended to be involved in when infiltrating the
Amazon forests) or Pirahas, but the theory "they count one, two, three,
many" seemed to summarise the experiences of several film crews with
Cruzeiro...

Is it possible that, born a Piraha, you learn to speak Portuguese plus some
English, manage an airfield or operate an airline and still have a
reluctance to deal with numbers over five?
Fortunately we never had to fly more than a "couple of miles".....
