Abstract
The goal of CSIRO's Health Data Integration (HDI) project is to provide the critical elements of a technology platform that integrates distributed health and social databases into a network from which to generate information to guide health policy and research. However, the task of performing any kind of analysis across them is beset with technical, organisational and ethical difficulties. The data collections are geographically dispersed, are built on a variety of technologies and have differing quality of attributes since they were designed for specific purposes. More importantly, many are under strict custodial control, which is essential to ensure ethical and legal use of the data collections and respect for the privacy of the individual from whom the data originates.
In this talk, we will present the overall Service-oriented HDI architecture, and the researcher's workbench tool that brings together the linking, integration, and analytics services in a secure web services environment that protects data privacy and confidentiality.
