Abstract:
If speech recognition errors are inevitable, it would be useful to have a
principled approach to identifying when they occur and a set of
well-grounded and generalizable techniques that enable us to handle them
appropriately. This paper gives a brief background to the problem of
errors in speech recognition, refers to related work in the field, and
identifies the key research issues. It is intended to produce a detailed
theory of error recognition and repair, implemented in a working spoken
language dialog system.
