Quantitative methodology in motor/physical activity research: topics for a collaborative discussion.
Abstract:
In the Department of Kinanthropology, including its small
Division of Research Methodology, and in some other sub-divisions of the
faculty, we believe to have several topics that may be considered
worthwhile for wider, and thematically various, collaboration and
exchange of expertise. From the more methodological point of view these
applications of structural equation modeling (SEM), including factor
analysis (CFA), classical as well other tests theory models and IRT,
reliability, and generalizability, multilevel analysis, and prognostic
time-series methods. From the rather substantive topics such
methodologies are applied to motor test standardization, structure of
health related fitness, structure of motor abilities or skills, motor
test batteries construction, study of motor ontogeny, body composition.
It also covers some questionnaires and inventories related to attitudes
toward physical activity, life style, and quality of life. More
recently, this applied interest is focused to construct validity of
certain motor tests, tests of laterality, and to the structure and
generalizability of attitudes toward physical activity.
