AusIndustry R&D Start grant
Lighthouse Technologies, the company set up to commercialise the Magic Wand
Yellow laser developed by Dr Helen Pask and Professor Jim Piper from the
Centre for Lasers and Applications (CLA), has been successful in securing an
AusIndustry R&D Start grant of $766,000. This grant will help the company
develop its laser products for commercial use by dermatologists throughout
the world. This injection of funds adds to the money the company raised in
pre-seed venture capital funding from SciVentures earlier this year.

Macquarie's collaborative research funding boost
Macquarie University has recently won more than $1million in research funding under the Australian Research Council Linkage-Projects Scheme, including the Overcoming transistor performance issues for emerging millimeter-wave applications project led by Associate Professor Tony Parker (Electronics).

Macquarie University was very successful in the latest round or ARC grants Macquarie ranks 7th in the new ARC Discovery Grants in terms both of number of grants (28) and absolute value of grants ($7,786,604). More good news in receiving 7 ARC Linkage Grants and in succeeding in two out of three of applications to host big LIEF grants for facilities for this campus, totaling $970,000.
