Connect 08

Connect ’08 held on Friday 29 August 2008, brought together engineering and ICT companies and students to build awareness of career and work experience opportunities and enabled students to get a tangible understanding of how technology is developed. The event, part of Macquarie University ’s Engineering Partnership Program, gave companies a greater appreciation of students' skills and attributes during their studies at Macquarie University. Connect '08 included 75 students, 10 technology-based companies, some from the local Macquarie Park area and over 30 company delegates. Companies showcased their workplace, careers, leading projects, products and people.Exhibitors were CiSRA, BCS Innovations, EMC Corporation, Nortel, Honeywell, Bilfinger Berger Services, 360HR, Optus, OEM Technology Solutions and the Institute of Instrumentation Control and Automation. Students and company delegates exchanged CVs and business cards and created opportunities for interviews for summer vacation or full time work.


Technology Trends Seminars

Technology Trends Seminars provide insights into the emerging ICT and Internet technologies that will power the next wave of Internet products and services. The seminars are presented by industry leaders and communicate technology issues in a clear and focused way.

CiSRA Australian R & D with global impact

On Wednesday 14 May, 5.30pm-6.30pm at Dunmore Lang College, 130 Herring Road, North Ryde,
Dr Ian Gibson, General Manager of the Image Processing Technology Division at Canon Information Systems Research Australia (CISRA) talked about CiSRA’s capabilities and its most significant achievements over the last five years. CiSRA is one of Australia's leading Research and Development organisations and is Canon's biggest Research and Development facility outside Japan. The secret of CiSRA's success is a combination of skilled personnel, research strength, hardware and software development experience, market consciousness and the development of global solutions for Canon from conception to manufactured product.

Megacity Challenges

On Thursday 7 August, 5.30pm-6.30pm at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, North Ryde, John Chapman, Regional General Manager of Siemens Ltd, New South Wales talked about the urban phenomenon of the 21st century, Megacities, and the key findings from the ‘Megacity Challenges’ reportJohn explored the challenges and trends that will shape urban development over the coming years in a supply-constrained world. He spoke about the huge challenges that megacities pose for sustainable urban development, such as infrastructure, that contributes to economic prosperity and to improving the quality of life, and how in many cities lags behind the needs of the population. Siemens is committed to finding solutions to give urban residents the world over fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink and reliable electricity to power their lives as well as healthcare and efficient mobility solutions which have a reduced impact on our fragile environment. The activities undertaken by Siemens span the areas of water, energy, environment, healthcare, productivity, mobility, safety and security.
