For casual staff

This webpage has been created for casual staff of the Division and provides links to information and forms that will be of use to you during your employment with us.

Casual Employment
'Casual' means that you are employed on a needs-only basis and paid only when you submit approved timesheets. Your contract specifies the type of casual appointment you are employed on, the conditions, your employee number, your job number, your hourly rate of pay and the period during which the contract is valid. All casual contracts cease at the end of each year and must be renewed if you will work in the subsequent year.

Types of Casual Appointment
It is important to identify what type of casual appointment you are employed under as there are different conditions and forms for each.

Casual academic means that you are doing academic work such as curriculum development, demonstrating, tutoring, lecturing or marking. Expressions of interest in casual academic work may be submitted to Department Administration Staff at any time. However, they are also periodically advertised in the press and on individual department websites with specific closing dates. Expressions of interest should include a covering letter advising your area of interest, a CV and address the selection criteria.

Casual general means that you are doing work that supports the academic endeavours of the university. This includes administration, research assistance and technical support.
