Professor Offen took up the Chair of Information Technology at Macquarie University in June 1991. He is the Director of the CSIRO-Macquarie University Joint Research Centre for Advanced Systems Engineering and Chief Research Scientist in the CSIRO Division of Mathematics and Statistics. His previous positions, in industry and academic life, have provided him with detailed and extensive first-hand experience of many different aspects of computing and communications technology and its effective utilisation. His previous posts include a joint Professorship in the Electronic and Electrical Engineering and the Computer Science Departments at University College London (1988-1991), Assistant Technical Director of The General Electric Company plc, UK (1987-88), Operations Manager of Imperial Software Technology Ltd, UK (1985-87), Manager of the Computer Systems Research Laboratory at GEC Research Ltd, UK (1981-85) and Senior Lecturer in Physics at the University of Otago, New Zealand (1965-81). |
