After completing a BSc degree in the Honours School of Physics at the University of Manchester (UK) I joined a research team at the Nuffield Radio Astronomy Laboratory at Jodrell Bank to investigate the structure of radio sources for my PhD. In December 1962 I resigned from a position as Research Assistant in Radio Astronomy at Manchester University to accept a Lectureship in the Astronomy Dept at the University of Sydney to work with the Stellar Intensity Interferometer at Narrabri Observatory in NW New South Wales. I took early retirement from my Senior Lectureship at Sydney University in 1989 in order to devote more time to other interests while still continuing my commitment to the teaching of physics to undergraduates. I joined the staff of Macquarie University on a part-time basis and for some time held a half time Senior Lectureship during the absence overseas of another staff member. As well as teaching first year Physics units and the second year introductory Astronomy unit I have been involved in the organisation of the Young Women in Physics Residential School program, the Siemens Science School for year ten High School students and in the Macquarie University Foundation for Astronomy as a foundation board member representing the Astronomical Society of Australia, BSc and PhD Manchester University Honorary MSc Sydney University 1989 Elected Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society London 1961 Foundation Member of the Astronomical Society of Australia 1966 Secretary of the Astronomical Society of Australia 1976 1993 Elected Honorary Life Member of the Astronomical Society 1993 Member of the Board of the Macquarie Foundation for Astronomy Secretary of the Donovan Astronomical Trust |
