Profile

Judith Dawes received a B.Sc.(Hons) and Ph.D. from the University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia. After postdoctoral research at the Ontario Laser and Lightwave Research Centre, University of Toronto, Canada, she joined the Centre for Lasers and Applications, at Macquarie University, initially as a Research Fellow, working on diode-pumped solid-state lasers. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics, Division of Information and Communication Sciences, Macquarie University. Her research interests in solid-state lasers include laser physics, new laser materials, and the development of compact moderate power lasers tailored for applications such as medicine, dentistry, remote sensing and communications. She teaches undergraduate physics and optoelectronics, and supervises a number of postgraduate research students in the research areas of solid-state lasers, novel gain and micro-structured materials, and laser applications.
