Instructions on the use of machine marked answer sheets
For the students:
- If you do not comply with these instructions, you may lose some or
all of your marks.
- Bring 2B pencils to the test or exam and
Only use 2B pencils on the sheet.
DO NOT use biro or ink. It is impossible to erase biro or ink.
DO NOT use liquid paper.
- Put another sheet of paper under the answer sheet when you are
filling in the circles. A hard surface under the answer sheet may
make the marks too light.
- Fill each circle COMPLETELY as shown below (& on
the sheet).
The last entry will be marked as no answer.
- Use a good quality eraser to change your choice.
An eraser suitable for paper and plastic film is a good type. This type
is not as abrasive as many low quality erasers.
- The marks shown below will be marked as INCORRECT.
For example:
Incompletely filled circles may be marked as incorrect.
DO NOT cross out a mistake. You must erase it.
The question 17 example
may be marked as C or as D or as multiple selection error (as in the question 11 example).
The last entry on the right was generated with a HB pencil.
Here it looks OK, but on the machine that scans the the answer sheets, it is most likely to be marked as no answer.
- You MUST enter your name and identifier in the:
NAME field and
IDENTIFICATION NUMBER field
Each field has two parts:
one with letters or numbers and
the other machine readable circles.
You MUST fill in the relevant circles
from the LEFT of the machine readable field for BOTH Name and Id.
Leave a blank column between Family Name, Given Name and Initial.
DO NOT put any blanks in the IDENTIFICATION NUMBER field
The NAME field must be in the order: Family Name, Given Name and Initial.

****If you do not identify your answer sheet correctly we may not be able
to credit the marks to you.****
- Fill in your choice of the ANSWER circle for each question on the exam
paper.
- Do not write stray marks on the sheet.
Mark only within the
NAME field and
IDENTIFICATION field and
within the chosen ANSWER circles.
- Do not bend the edges, tear the corners or staple the sheets.
